Steffens - an avid photographer whose work has been seen on countless album and magazine covers, posters, t-shirts, newspapers, and other artifacts - has taken more than 25,000 reggae photographs since 1973. These photographs are included in the Roger Steffens' Reggae Archive. His most famous image is of Marley in profile, smiling broadly, used as the cover for "Soul Almighty," which spent 54 weeks on Billboard's reggae charts. The collection includes more than 2,500 images shot worldwide of fans wearing Bob Marley clothing. Another huge subset is of red, gold & green items, the colors of Rastafari. Thousands of pictures from other well-known photographers round out the pictorial holdings, including large silver gelatin archival prints by Bruce Talamon and Kate Simon. Other prime pieces include the cymbal played by Wailers' drummer, Carly Barrett, on "No Woman No Cry," and signed by him; plus an envelope post-marked at the U.N. on the day that Haile Selassie delivered his famous "War" speech (later set to music by Bob), and signed by Selassie.
